Weekend Get-Away

OK so you know we celebrated our Anniversary this last Sunday. Jerry and I went up to our cabin on Palomar Mountain to get away for a relaxing time together. Now it was 70 degrees here in Poway when we left on Saturday morning... and the forecast was for a warm and sunny weekend... I knew it had snowed the week prior up in the mountains but thought by now it would have all melted.... silly me.

I had only packed my tennis shoes and took one light weight sweatshirt.... figured we go hiking perhaps and maybe picnic at Palomar Observatory or visit the State Park. I also took some stamping with me to get caught up on my card swaps. So had plenty of relaxing time planned... and we did relax... it was awesome.

But one thing caught us by surprise....... SNOW!!!  Yikes... I had no clue there still would be so much there. We are on the "shade" side of the mountain and generally has the cooler weather but I had no clue there still would be enough snow on the ground to matter. We saw a few patches on the side of the road on the top as we approached "town" but figured that was it...

So here's how off I was... take a look at our cabin as we drove up....

well actually we didn't get to drive up, our road isn't really a road but more like a path, so it wasn't plowed... the neighbors had shoveled the first bit but we barely made it through that and got stuck... of course no chains or no 4-wheel drive as we took the truck and not the jeep. We had to leave it there and walk things in... wasn't too bad as it was about 100 feet is all. The minute we did get stuck, the neighbor peeked out his window and hollered "I have a snow shovel you can use"... good thing cuz we did!

Here's Jerry walking in our cooler and the few supplies we brought.. .along with my stamping boxes loaded with paper and stuff... what a sweetheart..

And here he is now trying to get our first fire started.... think it was colder inside the house than outside...

We found out this friendly neighbor was "Dan".. he was staying a few days with his wife and three granddaughters. Also found out that Dan was the guy who actually built our cabin! His dad had also built many of the homes in the area.. so this was really "home" to him.

Sydney of course came with us... not sure if she liked the snow or not... Sunday afternoon the three little girl neighbors brought their little dog out.. Loyla.. just too cute at 12 weeks old... and the girls and the dogs played in the snow together... Sydney was a little curious with Loyla.... wasn't sure of all that energy she had! Another neighbor came by to see if I really existed...  hee hee hee... she had met Jerry several times when he's been up working on the cabin... so she was really glad to know I was a real person. It was nice to get to know her too.. a wealth of information about the area and local people if you know what I mean.

Here's Sydney.... resting from her romp with Loyla... finally got comfortable with the snow... at first she'd just sink in down to her belly... but after that she was ok...

We tried to take a self portrait when we got there... but the snow was so bright it pretty much washed us out... still a cool picture...

Sunday afternoon we made a snowman and had a snowball fight... ok, truth.... Jerry made the snowman.. I watched since I didn't have any gloves... but he found the two acorns for me to place for Frosty's eyes just to say I helped...

I took a few pictures of the cabin progress too.. the bathroom is really coming along and Jerry's done a great job.. still need to get the ceramic tiles up in the bathtub and finish up the plumbing. Once that's done he can finish off the panel on the walls.... but it's getting there! No running water yet... but hey, it "looks" nice!

Jerry had also made another beautiful blanket box.. this one for the cabin specifically. He intended on it being our "coffee table" in the living room, but it ended up too big... so instead we put it against the wall and for now have put our video library in it...

He also brought up our spare TV so we watched several movies in the evening. I made spare ribs and baked potato on Saturday night and a pot roast and garlic potatoes on Sunday night... quite a switch from his usual can of soup or frozen TV dinners... we even used "real plates" instead of paper... wow what a celebration.. hee hee hee.

So that's the story of our 40th Anniversary celebration...
the smile on Frosty's face tells it all...

I love you hon.. thanks for a great celebration...
here's to another 40!
