Bells & Whistles for Train Song Festival!

Wow the weekend was full of festivities! After my Spring Fiesta.. I headed over to the Train Song Festival going on at Poway Midland Park all day... it was a blast as well!

Jerry had the late afternoon shift driving the train... so it worked out perfectly. Our friends Terry & Howard brought their grandson Daniel down to join in and the kids came with Brayden.... Grandma D was also in town so she got to join us too!.... such a fun family time together!

First order of business... Daniel rides the tractor!

later Brayden gets his turn too..

Of course highlight of the day is the train ride...

Brayden and Grandpa....
it never gets old!

... and Daniel's turn with his Grandpa Howard...

Daniel with the "Engineer"  ...
he was pretty happy!

Brayden waits to share his Curious George treats with Daniel...

Daniel and Brayden in the Station Store...
playing with the train tracks of course...

Sharing some Kettle Korn with Grandma D at the fountain...

...and Daniel enjoys some Cotton Candy!

There were so many activities going on all day... was so fun...
here a gal was teaching kids how to hoola hoop...
while she was up on her stilts..
good thing the kids didn't have to get up on them too!

So Grandma D helps Brayden master that hoola hoop...

Meanwhile Daniel makes a few wishes tossing pennies into the fountain...

Grandpa Jerry gets to take a break....
and joins us for a few minutes

I'm so glad Brayden and Daniel are getting to know each other more...
becoming best buddies I hope!
Look how Brayden watches him so...
he's already looking up to him
and rightly so as Daniel is such a great boy...

Come back tomorrow and I'll show you the
incredible Mr.Jumping Beans... x2....
and a prize winning lesson from dad!

But for now.. here's a sweet
goodbye kiss to hold you over!

xoxo

IT'S BELLS & WHISTLES FOR TRAIN FESTIVAL
On Friday, Feb. 4, 2000, the City of Poway Community Services Department received an
Achievement Award for Recreation Programming from the California Park and Recreation
Society District XII for the Train Song Festival, which is held at Old Poway Park.
The award was presented for Outstanding and Innovative Program Development and
Implementation. Criteria for the award included creative and unique programming and
utilization and collaboration of volunteers.

Since 1828, the railroads that have criss-crossed the country have inspired songs
about the freedom to travel, the power of the great engines, the tragedies and
triumphs of railroad men, and the adventures of hobos and other traveling folks whose
lives have been entwined with the rails.

Each year the City, in cooperation with San
Diego Folk Heritage and the Old Poway Park Action Committee, celebrates the history
of trains and songs with a festival that includes train rides and robberies, a full
day of music on two stages, train-related arts and crafts, specialty food items, and
more!
