We started out at o'dark thirty.....
some more eager than others...
With my trusty wide-awake co-pilot beside me...
At least we're headed in the right direction....
First stop at Pea Soup Anderson near Solvang...
We also stopped to see the Elephant Sea Lions...
Next stop along Highway 1 was Ragged Point...
twas windy and cold fer sure....
but absolutely breathtaking!
Then back on the road... again
here's a great shot of pretty much what we saw the entire time...
the coast line and Hwy 1...
oh yes... and the trees!!!!
One of our "must see" was a place called Nepenthe...
a charming and quaint restaurant in Big Sur built in 1925
on the edge of a cliff right off the highway overlooking the shore..
We stopped for coffee
(well, three coffees, one diet coke)
I'd like to tell you this next picture is our first B&B... but it's not.
It's actually the gift shop at Nepenthe's... this headboard was
built from cypress trees by one of the employees on site....
all their items were so unique and amazing.
(yes and pricey too)
Back on the road to head up to Carmel
to our first real B&B for the night....
where we stayed at Casa de Carmel..
isn't it adorable???
Once we got settled, we wandered around town
and found this great Italian place for dinner...
St Tropez (or something like that)...
Claire loved her mushroom ravioli....
and Melissa was super jazzed about her fancy pizza....
After dinner we headed back to our place and sat outside
around the fire pot in the patio.... super relaxing way to
end our first incredible day!
I didn't realize until I really saw this last photo
at how much Claire and I really do look alike...
all these years I didn't see it.. until now..
.Look... same color eyes... same nose...
same smile, sort of...
and same lovely gray hair...
except Claire got the lucky curls...
I love you sweetie and hope you had
an incredible birthday celebration!
