My Maine Memories!

Well I've been back nearly two weeks now from my vacation to Maine... visiting the Sandy River Apple Orchard.... and wishing I were still there!.... but Jerry stayed on for a couple of extra weeks to help Carol and her father Francis get through more of the apple season... and especially to host her Barn Restoration Grand Opening of the new Sandy River Quilt Retreat which was held this past Sunday, October 9th.

Here are some highlight pictures of our trip....
Dedicated to Francis Fenton who is 96 years old...
and out did most all of us there!!!

Here's just one of the 500 apple trees....
bursting with apples....

The truth and nothing but the truth.... U Pick!

Here's their trademark design painted on the side of their apple barn...
and where they start lining up all the crates of picked apples..
ready for the cider house....

Here's a shot of the newly restored barn....
wait til you see the inside!

Pickers are given a map when they want to go out
into the orchard to pick their own...
so they know which kind of apple trees are which....

Tourists....

Look at these sweethearts.... the apples ~ not Jerry!!!
(although he is a sweetheart xoxox)

Jiminie.. I can't even lift the crate half full...
Where's Johnny Appleseed when ya need 'em?

This tree has FIVE different varieties on it...
each branch is a different "flavor"... amazing!
Over the years  Francis grafted
different type apple each season...
ya won't find anything like this in any other apple orchard!

There's markers on each tree to identify the variety...

Francis, Carol and Jerry....
the best apple pickers around!

Not sure you can appreciate the SIZE of these apples in the picture...
there's one variety that is over 20 ounces... they're HUGE!!!

Jerry and Francis... bonding...
gives a whole new meaning to
pickin' and grinnin'....

Now can ya tell how large they are????

Come back tomorrow and I'll show you how to
make an apple pie...
like I'm sooo experienced .... ya know !!!
