I wish you could hear the awesome patriotic music,
and the tap of of the western square dancers and
the tootin' train whistles and smell the cotton candy
and roasting corn on the cob.....
Can ya hear 'em playing Yankee Doodle??
Lots of famlies just picnicing in the park all day long!
They had all kinds of games for the kids going on...
and of course face painting too!
A mini car show with some old timers....
Do you recognize this 'ol timer?
Of course the #3 Train Steam Engine is always the hit of the day....
There were so many wandering the grounds in "period' clothing....
from cowboys to salon hands and many from the Civil War era
Many booths set up with artifacts and museum pieces....
From coffee pots to Civil War swords
Even Riffle and Gun displays...
This gal was teaching us about different bullets and gun powder...
Even caught a picture of the Train Robbery....
The soldiers win every time..
see the dead robbers laying on the ground
(just below the Southern Pacific train car)
Every hour on the hour the canon from the Veterans Park across the street
went off to honor our fallen hero's...
Civil War gal taking a rest....
I love this shot of the windmill...
The red white and blue banners everywhere were fantastic...
This is Templer Hall.. where the Quilt Show was inside...
it's used often in the Park for parties and weddings.
There were different performances all day long in the gazebo...
from the western dancers to banjo acts and country bands...
My very favorite was listening to the Poway Community Band...
it's all adult volunteers and they were awesome!
They're always last on the program so they can end the day
with lots of great patriotic songs...
they did an awesome medly of all the Military Themes..
and had everyone in the audience stand when "their song" was played...
Marines, Navy, Air Foce, Army... even the Merchant Marines!
Even Uncle Sam was there....
I was bummed that Brayden didn't make it down....
and especially realized it as I stood and watched
these darling little girls around the water fountain...
dressed in their red white a blue outfits!
The entire day was fantastic... certainly made me think about the awesome country we live in.. and just a great time to remember the history, the people, the land and most of all the freedom we have.
We say it so casually... but honestly,
God Bless America!
