Sand Castles and Sunsets!

A couple of weeks ago we all took the day off and headed towards the cool coastal waters where the temps were a bit lower than Poway.... with Kayaks and Sand Shovels we all met up at La Jolla Shores... well, us and a few gazillion of our closest friends.... it was one of the hottest days this Summer.... and we had a blast!

I hadn't been to the beach in eons so wanted to enjoy at least once this Summer with the family...  David Holly and Brayden were happy to drive down and get out of the Temecula heat, and Allen met up with us as well as the entire Banner family!! wooo hoo... what a special day!!! The "boys" went kayaking.. even Rebekah got out in the waves for the first time in the little yellow boat! I can't tell if I got them in this picture or not.... see 'em out there????

Brayden had only been to the beach perhaps once before... I actually thought this was his first time.. but guess the kids had taken him previously.. said he wasn't too fond of it.. a little fearful of the water and waves...

but think he still managed to have a great time...
especially building sand castles with his mom and dad!!!

Look at the "fish"  Holly made from the plastic mold....

He spent hours working on that castle!!
Finally took a break to have some nice
cold grapes with Uncle Allen....  pretty refreshing!

This is one of my favorite pictures..
sand between the toes.. and then some!

Then he started chasing seagulls....

OK back to work....

Then Claire got him started on a new little castle...
and had him come get water buckets from her...
she actually was trying to get him closer to the
waves as he was still hesitant....

so he'd walk back and forth to tote them
then dump them into his castle....

until he started to catch on and realize he was
getting deeper into the water....

then it got funny.. he'd run and hand her the bucket
before the waves came back in...

she's just stand there and not give in and make
him come and get them....
it was pretty cute...
kinda like a "stand off"....
you come here.. .no, you come here!!!

I lost count of how many trips he made..
then he's beginning to realize
all that water he keeps pouring in doesn't
seem to stay there...
so all that work deserves a cookie at least..
right?

So then it's time to get out of the wet clothes
and find Grandpa after his kayaking time..
hummmm... think he's got more cookies???

And then time to watch the sun set....
he makes a cute beach bum, don't ya think?

ahhhh... beautiful sunset to a beautiful day!
Thanks everyone for making the day so special!
xoxoxoxo
